RESOUND CHOIR

Before the Pandemic I had the opportunity to attend two performances of Resound Choir, both at Simcoe Street United Church in Oshawa. Wonderful, talented individuals delivering a fast-moving and uplifting choral programme. They have also had a few on-line concerts during the pandemic which you can sample on YouTube. I am a donor to the Choir and encourage others in the community to do likewise.

From our March virtual concert, we invite you to re-watch "Choose Something Like a Star".  In this piece, the emotive language of Robert Frost as he contemplates stars, is masterfully complemented by the lush tone-painting of composer Randall Thompson and the stunning painting by Lauren Hurst (LaurenAimeeArt.com).  Here is an excerpt of the words:  "So when at times the mob is swayed to carry praise or blame too far, we may choose something like a star to stay our minds on, and be staid."

The next virtual concert, "The Storm is Passing Over", is premiering on June 19, 2021.  Join the choir as they reflect on overcoming this past year's unprecedented challenges and struggles and still are hopeful for the future!  This uplifting and inspiring concert features works by Thomas Morley, Johannes Brahms, Ysaye Barnwell, and a brand new commission by sought-after Canadian composer Marie-Claire Saindo.

Tickets are free on Eventbrite, however, reserving one is necessary so you can receive the livestream link 2 days before the concert, and again 2 hours before (so the link is handy).  The link will be "live" for a full week following the premiere, so you can watch the concert any time during the week.

Free concert tickets are available here.

RESOUND is Durham’s newest auditioned choir for younger and older adults representing diverse origins, cultures, music and life experience.  We choose beautiful and moving classical choral works, enlivened with a touch of contemporary choral repertoire, to present an uplifting and compelling concert experience to a broad audience.  We have two key mandates:  excellence in choral performance, and meaningful community outreach.
